SPINK’S MEMORIAL CAMP

Reward your children, scouts, and young adults with a
trip to Spink’s Memorial Woods in Marcellus, NY off of
State Route 175.

 
This trip can be an excellent interface with nature and
teaching them how to live with out all of the modern
day conveniences.

What the area does not have:
1. Running water (bring your own for drinking, cooking and cleaning).
2. Electricity
3. Television
4. Leave battery operated radios at home so you do not disturb the wildlife.
5. Bath rooms (a primitive out house is on the property – bring your own toilet paper)
6. Cabins ( a small lean to exists)

1. Ample sites suited to set up tents on top of the hill.
2. A large field for games
3. Fire pits
4. Picnic tables
5. Hiking trails to the top
6. A driveway that is better suited for all wheel drive vehicles – especially in wet weather.
7. A magnificent view of the stars from the field at night. The light from surrounding
    civilization is effectively shielded by the woods.
8. Silence – is golden. The site is up on top of a hill and little traffic noise filters up from
    Rt. 175 or Slate Hill roads.
9. Many types of flora and fauna native to Central New York.
10. Many types of animals and birds (i.e. red squirrels, grey squirrels, black squirrels, fox,
      raccoons, wood chucks, deer, rabbits, coyotes (listen at night), owls, hawks, vultures,      
      woodpeckers, blue jays, chickadees,
11. ¼ mile from gas station Quick Mart for emergency restocking of supplies and snacks.
12. ¼ mile from fire department in case of a need for first aid or fire fighting.
13. Less than 2 miles from the center of the village of Marcellus and convenient to several
      churches.
14. Adequate cell phone service for adults.
15. Opportunities for work projects to “give back” to the site and teach responsibility and
      citizenship to young adults.
16. Free admission with prior permission from the Marcellus Citizen’s group which
      supervises the site.
